Root Canal Therapy
Save your natural tooth with gentle, modern endodontic treatment
If you’ve been told you need a root canal, take a deep breath—it’s not what you think. Modern root canal therapy is nothing like its reputation. With today’s techniques and anesthesia, many patients say the experience is comparable to getting a filling.
A root canal saves a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted. By removing the infected or damaged tissue inside the tooth and sealing it, the goal is to relieve your pain, address the infection, and preserve your natural tooth. At Parker Dental Studio, we use advanced imaging and gentle techniques to make the process as comfortable and efficient as possible.
How It Works
Diagnosis & Imaging
We use digital X-rays and CBCT 3D imaging to see the full picture of the infection and plan your treatment precisely.
Numbing & Access
The tooth is thoroughly numbed. We create a small opening in the crown of the tooth to access the inner chamber.
Cleaning & Shaping
Infected tissue is carefully removed, and the canals are cleaned, disinfected, and shaped to receive the filling material.
Seal & Restore
The canals are sealed with biocompatible material. A crown is typically placed afterward to protect and fully restore the tooth.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a root canal hurt?
This is the most common question we hear, and the honest answer is: no, a modern root canal should not hurt. The tooth is fully numbed before treatment begins, and most patients report feeling pressure but no pain. In fact, the root canal relieves the pain you’ve been experiencing from the infection. Many patients tell us it was much easier than they expected.
How do I know if I need a root canal?
Common signs include: a severe toothache that won’t go away, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, darkening of the tooth, swelling or tenderness in the gums near a tooth, or a persistent pimple on the gums. Sometimes there are no symptoms at all, and the infection is found on an X-ray during a routine exam. If you’re experiencing any of these signs, call us for an evaluation.
What happens if I don't get a root canal?
An untreated tooth infection will not heal on its own. The infection can spread to surrounding bone and tissue, cause an abscess, and eventually the tooth will need to be extracted. In rare cases, untreated dental infections may spread to surrounding areas. Saving the tooth with a root canal is almost always the better option.
How long does a root canal take?
Most root canals are completed in a single visit lasting 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the tooth and complexity. Front teeth with a single canal are faster; molars with multiple canals may take a bit longer. In some cases, a second visit may be needed to complete the treatment.
Will I need a crown after a root canal?
In most cases, yes. A root canal removes the living tissue inside the tooth, which can make the remaining structure more brittle over time. A crown protects the tooth from fracturing and restores its full strength and function. For front teeth, a crown may not always be necessary—your dentist will recommend the best approach.
How much does a root canal cost?
Root canal therapy typically ranges from $700 to $1,200, depending on the tooth (front teeth are less complex than molars). Most dental insurance plans cover a portion of root canal treatment. Keep in mind that a crown will also be needed in most cases, which is a separate cost. Our team will verify your coverage and provide a full estimate before starting.
Is it better to pull the tooth or get a root canal?
Whenever possible, saving your natural tooth is the better long-term option. A natural tooth maintains your jawbone, keeps neighboring teeth aligned, and functions better than any replacement. Extraction leads to bone loss and requires a bridge or implant to fill the gap, which is more complex and costly. A root canal preserves what nature gave you.
What is recovery like after a root canal?
Most patients return to normal activities the same day. You may experience mild tenderness for a few days, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication. Avoid chewing on the treated tooth until the permanent crown is placed. If you experience severe pain or swelling after the procedure, call us right away.

Schedule Your VisitDr. Trivedi is very kind and caring. He called me at home to answer my questions about a procedure. Dr. Trivedi was very professional and did a great job. I appreciated that occasionally he'd ask how I was doing and that was comforting. He's got a great personality too!— Pam
